Zodiac Challenge - Aquarius

The lovely Deborah Wainwright has started a new monthly challenge based around the signs of the zodiac - I've been pondering all month on how to represent this and what to make.  Not surprisingly I've gone with the first thing that popped into my head when I read Deborah's blog.  see details here

Apart from Gemini for my birthday, the only other sign of the zodiac I know the dates for is Aquarius as it's my Mums birthday is this month.

All the elements of my page somehow link to Aquarius, this month and most importantly my Mum.

-  For the background I've brayered on Inky Pool and Lake Wanaka paint and stamped circles in the same colours and small circles in black ink to represent the water element of Aquarius.

- Next I stamped and embossed some snow flakes for the snow we had today and the fact Mum dislikes the "stuff" with a passion.

- Next is a rare photo of the two of us together - both a bit camera shy ! The green flowers represent Mum's favourite colour.

- The wording is a mixture of stamped and printed for some variation.

Thank you Deborah for a thought provoking new challenge !

PaperArtsy - Shiny Stuff Project

My first thought after reading this challenge were, I can't wait to get started. But where to start ?  - foils, mega flakes, beads, glitter, treasure gold, gems, metal .................
Once I'd gathered my thoughts this is my first (hopefully, time permitting) project.  Sorry for the lack of photos, I nearly finished before I remembered.

This was made from a die cut embossed piece of card, painted black. I then used a clear embossing pad and bonding powder on the raised areas and then applied shiny foils in several colours.  The edges were hi-lighted in treasure silver.

I then added a silver flower to the centre and a ribbon hanger,  To add a little more shine and bling I then attached 3 bead dangling chains to the bottom.

thank you for stopping by to look x

Darcy's Calendar Challenge

Got round to my January page at long last.  I've learnt 2 things during this challenge - my small calendar doesn't in fact make the transformation easier (harder in fact as it's more fiddly) and I'm a messy worker who had paint on January to April so I had to tear out my page !

Darcy's challenge see here for details was to use crackling and book text - I've decided to use both on the border of the page.  I painted on an orange base coat and French roast  FF over the crackle glaze.  I then washed the book text with Chutney FF and cut out 1cm edging strips and punch a stack of little flowers to frame the main picture.

Fragile Papers

As soon as I saw this challenge from Paperartsy details here I knew I wanted to make something fun with this old copy of Alice in Wonderland I picked up in a charity shop.  As well as the lovely old text pages this has a few illustrations in it as well. I taken one of these as start point for my piece. The queens face really makes me smile - she looks cross but is almost crossed eyed lol

I used a piece of corrugated card as the background as I love the peeled back edges this gives.  This was painted with green olives FF paint (not seen in he finished piece at all !) crackled glazed and painted in nougat.

After that I went a bit mad with a spray of this, a hint of that and a splodge of the other as I couldn't get the right colour to tie into my main image.

Got there in the end I think. I've added a grunge paste heart to tie in with the Alice theme, a burlap square and some die cuts. The final touch is a couple of LB flowers with button centres.
