Mask

When I first read the latest Paperartsy challenge of Liquid Sculpting Medium I dismissed it as I didn't have anything such as Powertex to use. But reading further that other glues etc could be used I decided to give it a go.

I took a paper mache mask and firstly added strips of pleated calico to the edge using copious amounts of fabric decoupage glue - nice and messy ! I wanted another fabric with more texture and after hunting around I came across a bandage - this forms the main part of the mask. At this point I wasn't sure where to go next. The overall effect had an ancient look about it so I built up layers of paint, antiquing creams and treasure gold to give an aged look. Unfortunately it's a bit dull here this morning so the shine hasn't come out in the pictures 

 

To finish I added some metallic brads and a "sun" like cog.  Thank you for looking x

Art Doll - topic #5

The Paperartsy theme at the moment is art dolls see here for info - at first I wasn't really sure what to do but after a bit of googling it seems anything goes.

So off I went to rummage through my bits and bobs for something suitable to use as face - I came up with a little wooden spoon which fitted perfectly into a cotton reel sitting on my desk. Now the scary bit of drawing a face and colouring in with a mixture of fresco paints.

I added cardboard arms secured with wire and then built up a bit of bulk using strips of material. Here's the basic doll in all her glory !

Now she needed some clothes - I stamped a pattern onto a piece of white cotton (just seen on the blog that Lucy did the same thing - great minds think alike lol). I used this and some smaller pieces of fabric to fashion a dress.  This was sewed direct onto the body bit by bit.

All that was missing was some hair - a bit stumped for a while but fiddling around with some scraps I decided on lace hair - well who would like this - here's my finished doll........thank you for stopping by xx

Image Transfer #4

As I've never attempted any form of image transfer before I thought I'd start with something simple.  I printed a black and white image of some scissors etc and transfered it onto a piece of white fabric using Matt Medium.

I made up a little bag using some scraps of fabric left over from making some bunting and attached my image and some matching buttons.

PA topic #2 Hearts - Heart Box

The current Paperartsy topic is "Hearts" - where to start, too many choices.......in the end I decided to decorate a lovely heart shaped box I've had for ages.  I gave the top and bottom a coat of Space Cadet.  For the bottom I randomly stencilled in Sky and edged with blue gilding wax.

 

 

The top received some wonderful crackles with a top coat of Sky over crackle glaze. I decided the box would be useful to store some of sewing accessories in. With this in mind I edged the lid with some tape measure ribbon and trimmed with an assortment of embellishments.

Transparent Art #2

I'm on roll now, two posts in one day !

the centre piece of this tag is a circle made in a similar way to Wanda Hedges post from yesterday. see it here. I squirted glossy accents and ink onto acetate and sprinkled in some glitter, this was backed with scrunched up tissue and left to dry.

 

I then worked on the tag - a couple of old rub ons were covered with a light coat of Guacamole fresco paint. In a couple of areas I applied crackle glaze and then went over this with Honey Dew when completely dry. I next distressed the edge and stamped a small leaf design in Tumbled Glass distress ink.

My next transparent later was a couple of flowers die cut from blue vellum finished with pretty brads

This is my second entry to the current Paperartsy challenge

Transparent Art - storage pot

The first topic of the year at Paperartsy is Transparent Art - there are many interpretations of this topic and some great examples can be seen on the blog see here for details

 Now what I pictured in my head and what I ended up with are two very different things. I wanted to paint on glass - never again ! I stamped a butterfly from JOFY 32 onto a small storage jar with Stazon ink - tricky but so far so good.
 

The painting part wasn't so successful but was a learning curve - I used  frescos mixed glaze. Never mind, all good fun and kept mind mind off my cough for a while. 

To embellish the top I got out my never used Melt Pot (one of many unused things😉 I intend to use this year).  I love the fab translucent result and on top of the silver lid the heart seems to glow.

PA topic 22 - Masterboards

You can tell by how quickly (for me) I've made my entry for the current Paperartsy challenge how much I enjoy making Masterboards.  I usually stamp random images and colour them in but this time I've braved a spot of brayering.

This is the first couple of layers and where I usually declare it a "right old mess" and give up. 

Any way I carried on adding a couple of lighter colours and stamping, in ink and paint.  Lastly for a Christmassy feel I added a few snowflakes with bonding powder and silver foil - afraid these don't show up very well here.  I can see I need to persevere when making these as I quite like the end result below.

                                                                                                                                                Now the fun part of making the masterboard into cards - I ended up with 4 and a tag !  I might actually end up with enough to send at this rate !
